A RICH HISTORY
The Imbuga City Walk is a designated car-free area located in the heart of Kigali’s central business district, transformed into a vibrant recreational and green space, with its completion announced in December 2021.
This environmental featuristic project features pedestrian and cycling-friendly pathways, landscaped green corridors, food kiosks, exhibition areas, and a playground. Additional amenities such as street benches, free WiFi, a city lounge, an arcade, pedestrian-friendly lighting, and public restrooms will enhance the overall experience of visitors to the City Walk.
Imbuga City Walk: Kigali’s Car-Free Green Space
Imbuga City Walk is a vibrant hub offering various activities to enrich the urban experience in Kigali. Visitors enjoy walking and cycling along its car-free, tree-lined paths, creating a peaceful environment in the city center. The space frequently hosts concerts, public events, and cultural exhibitions, fostering community engagement and entertainment. Relaxation is a highlight, with benches and green areas providing spaces for socializing or unwinding. Small business kiosks add charm, offering local food, drinks, and crafts to support the community. The management of Imbuga City Walk
Imbuga City Walk, completed in 2021 by Kigali’s Urban Planning Department, offers green spaces, event areas, kiosks, benches, and pedestrian-friendly facilities. The concept was developed in collaboration with the University of Rwanda’s School of Architecture . The city of Kigali engaged local business company (Mopas), under an undisclosed agreement. Mopas uses profits from events, rentals, and advertising to maintain the space. Future plans include sharing profits with the city, ensuring sustainability and increased activity, such as concerts and public events
